Description

Gala Martínez-Romero stars in MedeA. Anarchy and freedom, an off review of one of the great classics of the theater

On Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16, Remolacha Producions will show Gala Martínez-Romero's unique vision of a myth that continues to generate confusion Medea is an inexhaustible myth that continues to haunt our minds.

This is demonstrated by the playwright and actress Gala Martínez-Romero in the performance that on Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th of October will be enjoyed at the Plot Point room in Madrid at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. respectively.

Gala challenges the most simplistic versions of the myth in the play MedeA. Anarchy and freedom. This new revision, made from the present and feminism, travels halfway between the language of the scenic, the dramatic, the poetic and the political. It is, in the words of the author of it, “to go beyond being a mother and what we expect of ourselves. It is about making a feminist critique also criticizing feminism because we are all barbarous ”.

The author vindicates the work of all the people who have made this new version of Medea possible. “There is a lot of work behind this work and a human and professional team that has left the skin to get this self-financed project forward. MedeA is here to stay, it is among us ”, she acknowledges.

The process of creating the work MedeA. Anarchy and Freedom is the result of several years of research on the classic character of Medea from a current and feminist perspective. The process begins in 2019, at the Espazo Aberto School (Santiago de Compostela), where a reduced version of the theater project is presented in the end-of-year show.

In September 2020, also in Compostela, another fragment is performed during the Good Night cycle. In May 2021, the complete piece premieres at the Plot Point theater in Madrid, where it will be replaced on October 15 and 16 at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Team and artistic proposal Gala-Martínez Romero is the author and interpreter of the MedeA text. Anarchy and freedom. The creation process has been conveyed through the investigation of the classic character of Medea, resulting in a very free, performative and personal text.

Gala Martínez-Romero is a lover of the alternative circuit, where she is convinced that it can be created with fewer filters and avoiding the commercial. “I like to do what I want. Listen to my process, my artistic needs. And do things that I think are interesting, not that they are going to sell well. Another thing is that the public comes out satisfied ... Nowadays, thanks to cultural communication, I do the theater that I want ”.

MedeA is the first piece as an actress and author that she brings to the capital. Her training in her interpretation has taken place in Espazo Aberto (Santiago de Compostela); Central de Cine (Madrid); o A Scene (Altea). This career as an interpreter is promoted after 15 years working in the world of culture as a communicator and director. She is currently in Madrid, studying, thanks to a scholarship for the extension of artistic studies of the Diputación de A Coruña, the Master in stage direction of Nave 73 and expanding her training in comedy and theatrical improvisation.

Antón Coucheiro, director and actor with a long history in the Galician scenic sector, is the one who directs this piece, providing his unique vision of this conversation over the centuries about the female condition. The sound space is a creation of Javier Lemus, composer and music producer, of which the production of Welcome to Malabo by Yolanda Eyama stands out, with 4 tracks included in the B.S.O of Palmeras en la Nieve awarded with a Goya award.

In addition, the stage space is based on an experimental lighting proposal by the multidisciplinary artist Beatriz Rubio, in which the shadows and fears of the protagonist are reinforced by the character of the audience, the pointing and pointing.
