Description

Nobody Cares On his fifth album, O Sister! takes us fully into the new 20s that this decade brings with its own sound within the swing that, far from complacency and an exercise in retro nostalgia, ventures to explore other genres and musical environments, while maintaining its hallmarks : the unique resources of the vocal trio, a jazz close to the roots of this style in New Orleans and a transgressive freedom that does take as its model that golden age. Accompanied by a powerful wind trio baptized as The Horn Department, in this LP the sextet does not seem to mind taking their feet out of the swing pot, delivering the most personal album of their career, in which they bare their technique, their creativity and their conception of the music. O Sister! is a tribute to North American popular music of the 20s and 30s and, in general, of the golden decades of '' dixie '' and '' swing '', taking as its main artistic reference the mythical! e Boswell Sisters, Trio of pioneering women in vocal jazz, who may not have achieved the popularity they deserved, still being imitated by many later vocal groups and admired by artists of the stature of Ella Fitzgerald. The contemporaneity and the surprising, despite the passing of the years, in the way of understanding the harmony, rhythm and vocal resources of the Boswell sisters, was what prompted the singer Paula Padilla to form a project that focuses fundamentally on the search for a repertoire very little known and of great interest both for its melodic content and for its 2 letters, as well as the harmonization and arrangement of more classical themes, but of which there are no three-voice versions. O Sister! they update a style that they intend to bring closer to the general public, and not exclusively to the usual jazz listener, and thus recover that way of understanding music -open, spontaneous, fun and direct-, which is so necessary in today's reality. A reality whose social situation could well be reminiscent of that experienced during the famous Great Depression. The group has two albums published under the Discóbolo label. The last, published in April 2012, is titled Shout, Sister! (2012) and like the first Crazy People (2009) - it was recorded in the studio of the producer and musician Jordi Gil (Sputnik, Seville) in rigorous direct and with all the musicians playing at the same time and in the same room, in the purest style of the time. In this way O Sister! they intend to soundly preserve the same freshness and spontaneity that they can transmit in their concerts, but without the addition of staging and contact with the public; more than enough reasons to understand why it is a group that must be enjoyed live. With their latest album the band shows a clear evolution in sound and a refined work on harmonies and arrangements, and they adapt to three voices, with very personal versions, classic songs such as '' Puttin´ on the Ritz '', '' Anything Goes '' or the delicate '' Dream little dream of me '', incorporating new elements that define its own style, the result of the work of recent years of filming.
