Contemporary music VANG. Musics in the avant-garde presents Beñat Achiary, Basque-French singer, musician and vocal improviser, philosopher, poet and multiple artist on June 16 at 7:30 p.m.

He belonged to the Urria group, one of the most innovative groups in the Basque folk scene. Throughout his career he has investigated and experimented with disparate music such as traditional Basque music, jazz, polyphonic vocal music, African music or Navajo music. In addition, he has worked on tours with the famous guitarist Pedro Soler and, more recently, with Niño de Elche. At CentroCentro, in the concert entitled To make the portrait of a Beñat (Achiary), he will be accompanied by the guitarist Joseba Irazoki.

On June 29, at 7:30 p.m., the cycle Open your ears, curated by Declassified, will feature the Norwegian vocal group Nordic Voices. Great representatives of a cappella art will present a program that includes works inspired by the sounds of nature from various eras. Formed in 1996, the Nordic Voices vocal ensemble is made up of six singers who graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Opera. His repertoire ranges from plainchant to new works commissioned from Norwegian composers, from the most sacred of religious texts to secular music. They have also explored the world of electronics, with works that exploit not only electronic amplification but also sampling, mixing and video art. Piano City Madrid CentroCentro also joins the European Music Day celebrations in June, joining as the venue for the first edition of the Piano City Madrid festival, which over a weekend will present a total of 60 concerts in different parts of the city. On the 18th and 19th, the CentroCentro Auditorium will host a total of seven concerts, all free.

The program will begin on Saturday 18, at 5:00 p.m., with Laura Ballestrino, selected by the Royal Conservatory of Atocha to participate in the festival. It will offer a program with music by Chopin and Scriabin and great contemporaries such as Alberto Ginastera and Antón García Abril. Next, at 6:15 p.m., Cristina Lucio Villegas, one of the most interesting Spanish pianists of her generation, will present From Europe to America: piano music around the 20th century, with pieces by Schumann, Boulanger, Fernández Vidal, Debussy, Castillo, Ginastera. At 7:30 p.m. the Italian pianist Gabriele Carcano will perform works by Bach, Ravel, Chopin in the concert Dancing Through the Centuries. On Sunday, the morning will begin with a concert/lesson for musicians and fans by pianists and researchers Laura Granero and Sebastian Bausch. In the session A trip to the past thanks to historical piano rolls and Disklavier technology, they will propose a journey through the golden years of the piano and will interpret works by Debussy, Mahler, De Falla, Granados, Rachmaninov, which can be heard just as they are. their own composers and the great pianists of the past played. At 4:00 p.m., the Russian pianist living in Spain Marianna Prjevalskaya will perform works by de Nebra, Scriabin, the American Aaron Copland, the great master of Leonard Bernstein, and Prjevalskaya herself. Finally, on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

CentroCentro will receive one of the stars of the festival, the French-American jazz pianist and composer Dan Tepfer. In two different sessions, he will play his Natural Machines project for the first time in Spain, for which he has written a new algorithm, the result of his training in astrophysics and his passion for music, in which the traditional acoustic piano, directed by a computer, reacts to your improvisations in real time. VORTEX

On June 23, at 8:00 p.m., CentroCentro will remain open especially to host the second date with dance and with VORTEX, the show Mar Aguiló X CentroCentro. Moving through different spaces of the Operations Courtyard, creating different sounds and different sensory environments, the dancer and choreographer, accompanied by four performers, will explore the world at night, representing it during the day, making visible the work and effort required to reach certain physical states. and psychological. Since joining the Compañía Nacional de Danza, Mar Aguiló, she has performed leading roles in works such as Cor Perdut and Arcangelo by Nacho Duato or Artifact by William Forsythe and has worked with choreographers such as Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Alexander Ekman, Marcos Morau, Johan Inger, Iván Perez among others. She is currently the choreographer and creative director of ELAMOR with whom she has created pieces such as Alicia, Teatro de La Abadía, Stella, Teatros del Canal, Prologo, Real Jardín Botánico, Equilibrio, Museo del Prado and E gira tutto intorno alla stanza, Caixa Forum. The free performance is part of VORTEX, a space for the exchange of dance productions between creators and institutions that investigates the margins in continuous transformation of contemporary art, accommodating action art at the center of Madrid's cultural space. Created in 2022, in the first phase the project has institutions such as: Teatro de La Abadía, Círculo de Bellas Artes, CA2M, Goethe-Institut, Casa Árabe, Instituto Francés, Blue Project Foundation, and galleries such as The Ryder or Freijo Gallery.
