El Naán presents his new work ‘Germinal’ in which he explores the ethnic roots of the tradition

His new work 'Germinal', explores the ethnic roots of the tradition, with melodies, rhythms and verses of ancestral traditions, which are inspiration for the new album from which 13 new songs sprout, such as the composition 'When the noise returns' that it was released in full confinement.

All of them with a diversity of unusual styles for the band, with special reference to the folklore of peasant and indigenous America.

‘Germinal’ is the fourth album by the Palencia band, after the successful album ‘La Danza de las Semillas’, considered the Best European Album in 2018 and four in the World Top. The previous album ‘La Danza de las Semillas’ was voted Best European Album 2018 and fourth in the World Top Multidisciplinary show that combines tradition and avant-garde, poetry and words, with music and images. With his own treatment of the performing arts, he fuses the music of ancestral Iberian roots with the musical and visual avant-garde of the moment. creating a new language that transcends the borders of music, theater, words and visual poetry.

It is a return trip. Inspired by the Homeric journey of Ulysses, Babel is a metaphor for cultural diversity, the meeting of cultures, a tower of braided languages, and Ithaca represents the journey towards one's own roots, in this case the musical and lyrical tradition of the center and north. of the Iberian Peninsula. A long work of research and compilation of Cuban, Maghreb and Mediterranean music from the journey as an identity, where musical traditions are rescued and renewed. Iberian music from the center-north of the peninsula with its rhythms and melodies becomes the container where all these traditions are poured, which make up the melting pot of identities creating a sound concept of great spirituality.

Some of the most ancient instruments of the Castilian tradition are rescued: traditional song, Rabel, dulzaina, zambomba, square tambourine, three-hole flutes (charra flute), tejoletas, psaltery, etc. Afro-Cuban influence: batá drums, Cuban tres, tumbadoras, Cabasa, Cuban Clave, etc. Mediterranean influence: Greek bouzouki, rik, Arabic lute, darbuka, fujara. Maghreb influence: Karakebs, dabul, ney, bendir.

All these influences blend with the sound of contemporary instruments such as: trombone, trumpet, electric guitars, drums, to obtain avant-garde musical textures.

THE cast of musicians that man this ship come from very different backgrounds; traditional music, jazz, musical pedagogy, medieval music, flamenco and Afro-Cuban music among others.

The Tower of Babel is the cornerstone of this project, a tower of braided tongues, reaching Ithaca. The word is present in all areas of the show, it appears in the videos, in the objects, in the songs. Poetry serves as a connecting link but also takes center stage and music is at its service. With an analysis of the Iberian lyrical tradition, the voice of the tunes and the oral tradition is used to create a modern poetic framework. Thus these forms, turns and traditional themes are in the lyrics of the songs, in the greguerías and in the micropoetry that fills the show with content.
