Description
The choreographer and dancer Antonio Ruz recreates the piece by Robert Gerhard
Soirées de Barcelone is Robert Gerhard's second ballet creation. Written between 1936 and 1939, it was a new commission from Colonel de Basil for the Ballets Russes of Montecarlo, which was never released due to the dissolution of the company. Léonide Massine wanted a “Catalan ballet” based on Catalan popular dances and festivals, and that is why he moved to Berga, to be able to witness the festivities of the San Juan festival. The result was a ballet that was initially called Los fuegos de San Juan , with a script by Ventura Gassol, but which was named Soirées de Barcelone in order to make the origin of the piece more identifiable.
Based, then, on the magical night of the San Juan festival, a torch dance engenders the eroticism of couples, intimately united, and concludes with the celebration of a wedding at dawn.
On the 50th anniversary of the death of one of the most universal Catalan composers, we present this co-production with the Juan March Foundation signed by the choreographer and dancer Antonio Ruz. An opportunity to enjoy your music in this dreamy and refreshing performance.
